Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review is a literary journal based in Austin, Texas that publishes poetry along with photographs, reviews and essays.

We are deeply saddened to inform our readers that Deb Akers died recently following a long illness.

For more than twelve years Deb defined Borderlands at its best - as a poet, staffer and board member. She spearheaded literary community initiatives and served as a mentor, confidante, and friend to a large network of writers and poets at home and abroad.

Our upcoming Winter issue will be dedicated to Deb whose service we celebrate with the honorary title of Board Chair Emerita posthumously.

We mourn her passing and honor her spirit.

Submit your work for publication in the upcoming issue. Since its debut in 1992, Borderlands continues to receive wide critical acclaim and garners a national readership. Submission deadline for the Summer 2012 issue is December 15, 2011.

The journal is funded and supported in part by the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division and by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts and an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
